Untrue or False
I think Burial's "Untrue" played in my livingroom on repeat from 9 to 5 yesterday, and then we drove around for an hour or two listening to it in the car as we shopped for a new tv. Sometimes I'd forget it was on, sometimes I'd stop what I was doing and just listen, but after a full day, I still can't decide how much I like it. Somehow, it's riding this perfect line between sublime and boring. Does it take some kind of genius to do that, or what? Still figuring that one out.

Yeah, I listened to it once and thought to myself--"this is hangout music". I haven't listened to it since...I don't get to hang out with people all that often...

NEW CAT POWER: Meh.
I like it.
I think I have decided I like it, too. When you spend time driving in your car it makes you feel like you are hanging out.
Cat Power meh?! That's a sad thought. I haven't heard it yet, but I've loved every record of hers since What Would the Community Think, so I have some high hopes.
The new Cat Power is a cover album, though...
So judging it on a scale of "meh" seems a bit... tiring.
I actually found Untrue to be boring. If I want chill music, I'll see to it that Air is playing.
Wow, RJP, referring to the "meh" judgment in question as "tiring" is about the closest things this blog has had to a flame war in a long time. How exciting!!
I don't see how the fact that it's a covers album changes anything, tho. Her last covers album was so original and whatnot that it was like a whole new creation-like.
I know the feeling. Nearly the entire album feels like one long, drawling piece - but a serene one. I like it.
I'm moving to Chicago, come the 4th of Feb.
So, if you need a place to stay for Pitchfork this year--I'm your man.
Also, I'm selling off big sexy prints at $60 bucks a pop to try and build my nest egg before I leave.
So if you know any rich, kindly souls--do me a favor and pass my photostream along.
LOVE, DAVID
POST SCRIPT: We should try to get some hot caffeinated beverages before I take off.
Eh, it's just me then in terms of how I look at cover albums. I suppose it'd make more sense if the comment read more like, "Her covers album didn't really do the artists she covered any justice, therefore, meh."
I'm being nit-picky.
Feb. 4! That's too soon! I'll try to get in touch, though I'm sure your dance card is going to be full. Are you tending at the T.C.?
