Whitefish Point, U.P.
Two days ago we're swimming in Lake Superior at the tip of the U.P., and now it's Ninety-Something in Indiana. No fair. When you drive, you should only drive north. Even in the winter I think that.
Had a nice, minimally internetted week. No matter how much sunscreen I put on, my body still wants to be tan. No matter how much of Mansfield Park I read, Fanny remains a cipher, or does she?
I slept a lot, too. I mean, if you don't sleep, you are wasting that dry Michigan breeze that is pushing the wave sounds through your open window.
Now it's time to start becoming teacher-man again, a persona that I hope will have more than a passing resemblance to summer-man, but it will be a challenge. Wish me luck.

Farewell Summer Man! Mansfield Park, huh? Never read it, but I've been trying to read a few classics this summer.
It's not over yet. Maybe I'll make a wrist band that asks "what would summer man do?"
MP is good summer fun. I've been meaning to read Olive Kitteridge because Cath loved it, and my dad is reading it now and liking it, too.
Oh, please have WWSMD bracelets made! I'll put in my order right now. The only classic I read this summer was "House of Mirth." I checked out "The Sound and the Fury" today, but who knows if I'll actually read it. Wes heard "Olive Kitteridge" was good too. I totally forgot about that book.
I love Faulkner, but I think I've tried to read the Sound and the Fury about five times and it's never worked. I even tried an audio version on my drive to New Hampshire last summer and it was a disaster. I was constantly rewinding. So, more power to ya.
Mansfield Park. When will you tell me what you really think?
I don't know. I have to find and re-read your essay first. I'm reading it sooo slowly though because it's so much fun. I'm practically acting it out by myself.
