Thoughts on the Banksy-is-commodified controversy?

I'm not aware of any specific controversy . . but a part of me thinks that that argument began and ended with Warhol's soup cans and Marilyns. Something about the way Banksy relies on reproducible stencils suggests that he's intentionally playing with the idea of taking an intensely personal and guerilla art form and treating it as a commodity. I'm curious about the controversy, though. Will look it up. He has a movie coming out, but I haven't seen the trailer yet. Should be interesting.

Yeah, I don't really know that much about him either. But Anthony Lane in the New Yorker kind of smacked down his street cred, I guess.

On paper, he seems neat. I like the Guantanamo doll thing.

That said, the people I know who have seen the movie have said good things.
