Reading

As part of the "First Fridays" poetry series, my friend Dana Barret and I will be reading this Friday, September 7, at the Three Rivers Co-op . 7:30 sharp or so.

It will be totally fun--if you come.

Super-Secret after-party TBA, but I bet I don't get invited to it.

Oh, gosh, H-man. I really want to go and see you! It's too bad work has gotten in the way and thwarted my plans once again. Good luck though, I'm sure you'll be awesome!

Try not to stutter. Unless it's for effect. Make sure everything rhymes. And I mean, everything.

O, there will be both stuttering and muttering of all kinds and shapes. Any rhymes will be accidental. I'll probably stop and say "hey, that rhymes!" each time.

Good luck at the poetry slam thing. I'm sure you will rock that competition at the co-op!

I've been grading a bunch of summer reading assignments and I have to say that the Cat Power "The Greatest" is rockin the house. Who knows, maybe I'll start listening to some British invasion nonsense soon... times are achangin'

That one is so great. It would be in my top five if it came out this year, too, probably.

It was too bad that she was a little disappointing live this summer. Maybe it's the mellow acts that suffer at outdoor festivals--Iron & Wine was the other somewhat boring show, I seem to remember.

Hey, are those bookshelves in your office Ikea? I want to get some, but I'm worried they'll be cheap and start sagging.

And it's not a poetry slam competition; it's a poetry Real World.

Poetry Real World:
Is that when poems stop being polite and start being real and true and culturally relevant?

My book cases are in fact IKEA and still haven't shown any sagging after a full year of supporting the books - even the heavy ones.

Me and Maggie are coming, but she doesn't get off work until 8, so it'd be like, maybe 8:30 before we got there.

Any chance of catching you read if we get there that late?

There's a decent chance. Dana will go first, at 7:30, and run to just before 8:00. Then a 10 minute break and I'll go for a half hour or so. I hope you make it!

Awesome, we'll drive out there anyways and hopefully catch most of it!
